Maytag's heritage dates back over 100 years and was founded by
Frederick Louis Maytag
in Newton USA in 1893. Originally a farm implement company they began manufacturing washing machines in 1907, starting with wooden tubs. By 1924, one in five washing machines sold in America, were made by Maytag.
Maytag has many firsts, including the power washing machine in 1909, and the first washing machine and dryer with touch screen controls introduced in 2000.
During the 2nd world war the Maytag factory produced parts for WWII bombers, after which it continued with its laundry products. It then expanded into producing refrigeration and other home appliances, often toping Consumer Preference surveys.
Maytag was introduced to New Zealand in 1960's
Maytag's NZ heritage dates back to the 1960's when the first units were introduced for use in commercial laundries.
